Screen Changes on Swiping Touchpad on Windows 8 – Fix it?

Often many users confuse why the screen switches or changes on swiping the touchpad. On moving your fingers on the touchpad you see a change of screen or the screen navigates to other screen. This can be irritating if the screen changes when you are working upon using the touchpad in Windows 8 laptop. To fix this issue here is the tutorial how you can disable the swipe edges on Windows 8.
You all must be aware that Windows 8 introduced many features that are new or say were never introduced in other Windows OS like Start screen, hot corners, swipe edges, etc. Swipe edges features allows easier navigation between windows screen on the touch screen devices. But the swipe edges can be a demerit if you lead to an outcome where you are interrupted while working as the screen jumps to somewhere else in the laptop.
The Swipe edges feature is meant to be useful but if it leads to interruption then its better to disable it. If you see your screen jumping or switching on its own then try the methods described below to disable the Edge Swipes feature on Windows 8.
1. Edge swipes feature Mouse control settings. So firstly, open Control Panel and click on Mouse icon. Next go to properties and click on the device settings tab. You can now see the touchpad settings on screen. Simply uncheck the option for Edge Swipes and Hot corners and save the changes made. After you have set the touchpad settings try swiping the touchpad and see if your windows screen changes.
2. To disable the Touchpad Edge swipe feature on Windows 8 you can use the registry.
  • Press Win + R and type in regedit and hit enter. Thos will open Window registry editor
  • Next, in the left pane navigate to the following locationHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\

  • In the left pane itself create a new key under the ImmersiveShell key and name it as EdgeUI
  • Next, In the right pane create a new DWORD value and name it as DisableCharmsHint
  • Right click on it and change its DWORD value to 1
  • Next, create another DWORD in the right pane and name it as DisableTLcorner and set its DWORD value to 1. By this you can disable the Windows 8 feature app switcher hot corner.
  • Finally, save and close the registry editor. The changes done will take effect thereby disabling the touchpad edge swipes.
3. To bring back the missing start menu users use the third party application to disable certain features like hot corners, start screen, etc. If you have installed Classic Shell then you can easily manage or disable the touchpad edge swipes. Open the main interface for Classic shell and go to Windows 8 settings and uncheck the options under disable Active Corners this will disable the hot corners or edge swipes on Windows 8.
The steps described above will disable the Edge Swipes and get rid of the issues with Touchpad swiping makes the screen jumps on moving fingers on it on Windows 8 operated Laptop.
